Excavator pilot valve control pattern converter iso/std
Control patterns (ISO or Standard) The operating pattern of an excavator's joysticks. There are two predominant joystick patterns on excavators. When operating in the ISO (Caterpillar) pattern, the right-hand joystick controls the boom up/down function and the left-hand joystick controls the arm in/out function. With the "standard" (John Deere) pattern, these two functions are reversed. Excavators equipped with a control pattern converter valve allow the operator to choose the preferred control pattern.
This valve connects to the pilot oil lines coming out of the operator control joysticks (pilot valves) and in position 1 allows a standard pattern output to the main body valve, when the spool is turned 90 degrees the pattern is switched to ISO pattern, swapping the pair of functions (or vice-versa). This is very useful for equipment with multiple operators since an operator trained on one control pattern is far less efficient & safe when operating a machine of another pattern. This valve makes changing patterns easy.
There is no handle provided on this valve for a reason, the valve must be turned with an ordinary wrench to prevent accidental shifting by being bumped. It can be turned either direction & shifts the pattern back & forth every 90 degrees. The spool has double detent balls to positively stop the valve in position every 90 degrees of rotation. This valve is designed to work with the pilot control system up to 1000psi & 4 gpm.
There are 8 connections size 3/8 (-6) SAE ORB (o-ring boss), 2 pairs in & 2 pairs out please follow this link to view the schematic diagram pdf. Machine connection consists of routing the 4 pilot lines for the 2 functions to be controlled into the pattern converter valve inlet ports, then routing the 4 outlet ports back to the pilot system (as they were originally). This way shifting the valve spool will swap functions as shown on the pdf document. Usually 8 fittings for the valve ports & 4 hoses will need to be added to connect the valve to your machine. These connections vary by machine so they are not included with the valve, if you know what you need we can also supply the hoses & fittings. A good heavy equipment mechanic or hydraulic serviceman should be able to install this in short order.
