Kenwood r-2000 shortwave am ssb receiver w/ vhf module

This Kenwood R2000 receiver is in great cosmetic condition showing a couple of minor signs of use only. I ask you to look at my pictures for specifics and please note that the receiver has been detail cleaned. Electrically, everything works fine and the unit has been fully tested.
You will see that the desireable VC-10 VHF unit is also installed. This is somewhat scarce and allows the receiver to expand the receiving frequencies to also cover 108 to 174 mhz in all modes. This allows the coverage of the amateur radio 2 meter band, the National Weather Service band, and some public service frequencies.
Let me review some of these features with you. You have
* 3 tuning speeds, a band selector and a tuning knob. Depending on where you are in the range of frequencies and where you want to go, you use a combination of these to get you quickly to the band or to the specific frequency.
* memory buttons for favorite stations
* the ability to scan memories for quick location of broadcasts
* timers for recording programs when removed from your listening station
* 2 clocks for having both local and universal time at your fingertips
* tone control for listener perference in sound
* a noise blanker for certain types of man-made interference
* narrow / wide choice of bandwidths to allow the user to select the best sound and intelligibility without side channel interference
* lower and upper sideband or CW to hear amateur radio, marine, and air traffic & weather. The R-2000 does a great job at making sideband signals intelligible and this receiver can provide hours upon hours with a variety of listening enjoyment
* dimmer switch for the display for night time listening
* tilt bail underneath to lift the Kenwood up off of the surface for easier accessibility, if needed.
* operates on 12 VDC or 100 / 120 / 220 / 240 VAC
The sound coming from the internal speaker is above average for communications receivers. Also above average are many of the evaluations from across various sites on the internet. One of my favorite places to visit for information is eHam.net as it offers information from actual users over a portion of time, not professionals that may test it for a few days in a shop or lab. The R-2000 reviews are here and it ranks a 4.2 out of 5:

Here is the link for the Rigpix database giving some information on the R-2000 and some owner material:

Another nice site to garner useful information is Universal Radio that often gives some basic specs on equipment along with pictures of the equiment sold. You may view the R-2000 information here:

To summarize, this Kenwood receiver works well across the entire tuning range. Sometimes I have to attend to some issues to restore a receiver to proper operation. However, this unit is in fantastic original condition and everything works beautifully.
For those of you that like would like a history of Kenwood, here is a brief one for you to read:
Kenwood was originally begun in Japan as the Kasuga Musen Denki Shokai Limited Company and founded in 1946....just 1 year after the end of WW2. In 1952, it's first communications grade receiver was produced using 6 tubes and called the 6R-4. In 1955, the company broadened it's line and now expanded into mass production of audio, communications, and test equipment selling much of it under the brand and company name of Trio.
Then in 1960, the Trio Company changed it's name to Trio Limited. In addition to a variety of equipment under it's own name, it manufactured private label pieces for the large retail chain, Layfayette and other firms. In 1963, the overseas brandname of Kenwood was established for hi-fi equipment in Los Angeles. In 1975, Trio-Kenwood Communications, Inc. was established in Gardena, CA to market amateur radio equipment in the USA. In 1986 the name was shortened to Kenwood Corporation.
Over the years, Kenwood has produced some of the most durable, sensitive, and user friendly equipment for the amateur radio and shortwave listening markets.
