Over the last few months been getting together gear to go portable, honda gene, tent, camping gear etc. Have a couple of roach poles and a G5RV, seen your antennas and looked just the business for a few nights on Winter Hill, no traps or radials to mither with.
In the garden I have existeng a half wave G5RV at only 12 feet. It's hung at ends being north / south so proporgation at best east / west.
I had an old pitch fork that had a broken handle, so sawed it off and used for the ground stake, works a treat and well sturdy enough. Assembled the Pro Whip and mounted it at ground level on what remained of the pitch fork handle. Run counterpoise out east / west and just laid on the garden with no ground rod yet.
Really my intention was to see if I got any reasonable results at all before packing it and going /P. Two nights ago worked ZP6CW, 21:30 GMT, CW / 20 Mtrs, there was a pile up and got in first shot...579 / 579. Last night VK3MOX, 23;26 GMT, SSB / 20 Mts....54 / 43. OX3JZ, CW, 40 Mtrs....569 / 579. GM0HCQ/MM, 23:36, CW, 40 Mtrs....569 / 439, cordinates 69N / 51W near Greenland also. Not even heard OX for quite a few years, probably due to my existing G5RV being end on.
All above was with 100 watts, IC 7000, SM-20 mic, key Begali & LDG AT-7000.
Today is quite breezy and antenna / pitch fork rock solid.
Must say Ray I'm well impressed for the money, and simply well made with nothing to go wrong.............Good Job !
What do you think about using a copper earth rod, maybe get better results ?
